This comes to us from Dan, Dan, Superman, a long time Ork player.
Hey Reece- this is that stupid nerf to Ghaz that I’m surprised the internet has not been all over. I’ve seen literally 0 people talking about it so maybe I’m just not getting it.
Prophet of the Waagh (from Codex)
Ghazghkull’s war cry can unleash a Waagh! of devestating proportions. Ghazghkull’s Waagh! can be summoned at any time, but only once per game, and not on the first turn. It replaces the army’s usual Waagh!- this one is better.
Ghazghkull’s Waagh lasts the remainder of that player turn and all the following player turn. During this period Ghazghkull’s saving throw is invulnerable.
Furthermore, for the furation of the Waagh! all Ork infantry units autmatically count as rolling a 6 for the Waagh movement they wish to make. All non-fleeing friendly units become Fearless for the duration of the Waagh!.
Not that no more than one Waagh! can be called per turn, so Ghazghkull cannot combine his Waagh! with the Waagh! generated by a Weirdboy.
NOW the Faq has a few things to change!
Change the second sentence to “Ghaghkull’s Waagh! can be summoned at any time , but only once per game, and not on the first game turn.”
Change the third paragraph to read “Furthermore, for the duration of the Waagh! all Ork infantry units automatically count as rolling a 6 if they Run.”
SO what that leaves us with is.
Prophet of the Waagh (from Codex w/ FAQ)

SO here is my big problem. As written this is a huge nerf. For one this means no fleet for Ghaz’s ork army. There is no mention of fleet anywhere in here and of course this EPIC feat replaces the normal Waagh and is of course positively the stupidest thing ever to gain a 6″ run instead of fleet. Beyond that based on the wording of the Faq of “replacing” the entirety of the third paragraph instead of just the one sentance the boys aren’t fearless also (as opposed to saying Change the first sentence of the third paragraph, similar to the verbiage of the other change they noted).
Am I wrong? You tell me, I’d love to be wrong on this. This pretty much killed all desire I had to play my battle wagon orks from the day this Faq was release.
I’d be interested to know your (and the Internets) thoughts.
Best,
Dan
What do you guys think? I think Dan’s right, unfortunately. Sigh.
He’s right. The Waagh is in general nerfed IMO but Ghaz’s rule in particular is completely hobbled. However…… Orks are still viable in 6th. No reason to stop playing BW orks just cause Ghaz went a little soft on ya. Now if his Rule guaranteed an assault of 6 +D6…… Ghaz is the MAN!
Side Note I finally found the flyer rule I asked you about too. end of the zoom move. States that you can neither embark nor disembark from a zooming flyer. so Hover mode is assured. except for Necron Cheatyness.
Exactly. I thought his rule would be something like 6 + d6 assault with reroll. That would be awesome.
But to be just a 6″ run AND to lose fearless… man. AND you lose the fleet waagh? Kick in the nads.
He is still a challenge eating machine… but I’m not sure he’s worth the points over a Mega warboss.
No more losing combat, then calling Waagh to save them from running! That sucks.
His WAAGH! doesn’t actually do much of anything anymore…..how dumb.
Orks have gained so much in so many different ways with so many different units that I wouldn’t complain much about one nerf. Nob Bikerz and Mega Nobz are both crazy tough due to the changes to AP and Toughness modifiers. Hordes got awesome due to the removal of No Retreat. Snap Fire is a huge boost for basically all Ork units. And it will be easier to get into assault if fewer people are taking transports, as the old vehicle and transport rules were one of the things the codex struggled a little with with. Orks were good before, now they’re awesome.
Nob bikers are amazing. Meganobz are definitely better.
I’m torn on the hordes though. There is a bit of the return of the killbox. It isn’t bad like 4th edition, but it is there. Nobz seem to get challenged to death more often than not… so I’m not sure if we stop taking them.
Certainly the removal of fearless wounds help and snap fire does make shootas awesome.
Also another bit that nobody seems to talk about is open top vehicles seem to hurt guys inside at str 4 instead of str 3.
So when I look at MY own BW ork build… eh, it just doesn’t have me that motivated to rebuild. I also have plenty of other amries to work on so I’ve got more attractive options!
The Hordes aren’t great per se, due to challenges. They are good for taking objectives, but not great, IMO.
The fact that Ghaz’s WAAGH! has almost no effect anymore apart from making him go Invul is pretty weak.
GW has said we’ll see new FAQ’s by summer’s end (5 weeks). I’d imagine this will be addressed then. Be sure to send this to the FAQ email though. Could just be a typo. 🙂
I would like to think it is a typo… but well GW is hit or miss it seems when it comes to this.
I’m still recovering my warptime nerf!
Im with SoD on this one, wait to see how the next FAQ reacts. The first FAQ after a new edition is always going to be a bit all-over the place, hopefully you get 6+D6 in the next one, would make sense!
Agreed. And losing Fearless was a bummer, too!
Well you know GW probably said ‘hey we sell a lot of Ghaz models and not a lot of Weirdboyz and Shokk attack guns, clearly Ghaz is too powerful.’
I’m sure they didn’t consider that those other modesl are bad due to their randomness…
hahahah, touche, sir!
Fortunately, you don’t really need Ghaz anymore for an Ork army. A regular warboss in Mega Armor should be just fine, minus the EW. (But at true T5, and a 2+, he doesn’t have too much to fear from anything else anyway.)
It is more that he made the army fearless that I am bummed out about. But, oh well.
Just gotta think outside the box more with him. If you’re running BW heavy or Trukk heavy, you don’t really need the fleet as much since your vehicles will be getting you into assault just fine. Then you can be sly and save the Waaagh towards the end of the game and make that last objective grab and be fearless for the enemy’s turn while they try to figure out how to remove you.
Something like that. It’s not quite as “Orky”, per se, but the Orks are allowed to use “Tactikz” from time to time!
Rumors has it that we will see a new FAQ in august. But Gazzy has been nerfed badly no doubt there. If we are lucky its just the usual ”going to fast to the throne room without a roll of paper” from GW. If were lucky that is.
It says “change” not “replace”. I think you’re reading too much into this. GW is not renown for their spelling and grammar. I’m sure it’s just a fluke that has been overlooked.
By RAW, it is a huge NERF, and really unnecessary, IMO. You can choose not to play it that way, of course, but at an official event that hasn’t house ruled it, that is how it reads.
Seriously … are Orks ever going to catch a break? I have a 180 boy strong army completely built around Ghaz and this is beyond a kick to the nutsack … 🙁
Yeah, it ripped the guts out of my army, too. I was pretty pissed. His WAAGH! essentially doesn’t do anything now, which is idiotic.
