I’m not sure I don’t have the book, but I think you can only “look out son” time when a unit gets shot at, so I don’t think Yarrick can take all those wounds and look out son each one. I’m not sure tho I do not own the book I’ve been leaching off other people and a PDF.
So, should I start calling this site “Front-whine Gaming”? You say you like more than you dislike about 6th but I find it hard to believe after hearing you guys poke fun at and complain about the game for 30 minutes. Yes, your army composition had a LOT to do with how your game played. You specifically made your lists to use and abuse those rules. As you said, if you take more balanced armies you probably won’t see those shenanigans to the degree you guys did in your game.
I would love to see a series of playtest battle reports from you guys (like you did with the “leaked” rules) at 1,000 or 1,500 points with standard armies. I would personally refrain from allies for at least the first few videos as not only will this help new players see how the game works now in 6th Edition based off of your videos, but it will help you guys iron out the rules you’re still shaky on.
Front-Whine gaming? hahaha, you could if you wanted to, I suppose, doesn’t really matter to us either way. We were just laughing at how ridiculous some of the new rules are, and we brought those armies to illustrate those points. It was intentional, Frankie and I were both just coming up with ridiculous armies on purpose. We find humor in a badly written rule set, you may not, which is fine, but no need to get mad at us for it.
Comparing the leaked PDF against this would be awesome, however, seeing as how it won’t be a rule set that is actually used it is a bit of a moot point. IMO, that rule set was vastly superior but as we are trying our best to cram thsi entire rule set into our heads in preparation for events we have coming up, we don’t want to start getting wires crossed with rules from a rule set that won’t be used. I would have loved to do that, though. Perhaps down the road when we have this rule set more firmly entrenched in our brains.
I see your point about allies, but it doesn’t muddy the water that much, honestly. The rules for how allies interact are actually pretty clear apart from a few cases. And, in tournaments you are FOR SURE going to be seeing these super friend combos and I think it behooves us to prepare ourselves for what is to come.
Actually I said nothing about comparing the leak to the actual rules (where did you get that?). I suggested that do play-test battle reports for 6th Edition like you did with the leak. You did 3-4 video batreps and you were excited and anxious. With 6th, all you did was get your hopes up over the leak and whine about it when it wasn’t the leak. You guys unfortunately fell for the prank hook line and sinker and even proclaimed that you had evidence saying it was true.
I always try to tell people to avoid leaks and rumors and to just wait for the actual rules before making any claims or decisions. I actually could care less what you think of the new rules, and that’s not why I come to this site. I would like to see video batreps. You have those. I want to see them for 6th Edition. You are starting to do those. I would like to see them with less whining howeveer, and so far you don’t have those (and even your older vids contain a lot of whining and other people point out how it’s jut not entertaining).
As for it being a badly written rules set, that’s an odd thing to say considering in the video you guys claim that there are a LOT of good changes and overall it’s an improvement to 5th.
Ah, I don’t know where I got the PDF comparison from, hahaha, sorry. I must have got two comments mixed up. I try to keep up with a lot of different media outlets and sometimes I get my wires crossed.
We do know that the “leaked” PDF came from GW. It was a test rule set they were considering. We were told that it was going to be legit and that, obviously, turned out to be wrong.
You have a legitimate complaint that we (mostly me) have been bitching too much. Actually, I do it in my games in real life too, and it is a bad habbit. It’s weird because I don’t do it in any other aspect of life at all. I think it is the randomness of the dice, I don;t like the feeling of not being in control. I am aware of when I bitch about dice, and how lame it is, but it is compulsive, I have trouble stopping myself.
You aren’t alone in saying the complaining is annoying. We hear you guys, and we’re going to cut it out. Negativity is not appealing, and I don’t think I would want to listen to or watch a constant stream of negative remarks, either, so fair enough.
We’re going to work with the rule set that we have and make the best of it as there really is a lot to like.
Like I said, thanks for being blunt, it is appreciated.
Well, we’ve seen you guys trying to make crazy, broken and whacky stuff, but it seems to cause the most headaches. How about a battle report of a game with regular lists? I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m very excited to see what your MIGHTY FOOTDAR are capable of now and how you tweak and adjust them based on how they do. 🙂
I was just thinking the same thing! We need to play the game “normally” and we filmed a bat rep today doing that. It will take me a day or so to get it edited and up on the site.
When you play the game within the spirit of the rules, 6th is actually a really cool rule set.
And yes, the Mighty, Mighty Footdar must live on! hahaha
The Khan cant be your warlord because he was not from your primary detachment (pg109). Keep up the good bat reps. I wonder if people that take the deathstars that role one wound at a time will be called ot for intentional turtling.
On a side note I played my first game with Dark Footdar vs Chaos and got tabled in 5 turns. There were plenty of chances for me to turn the battle but my dice were not with me this day. I think the army is still viable with the use of Aegis defense lines that will give cover to the units that come out of the portal. Worth a shot. Have you given up on your Dark Footdar this edition?
Stop complaining about the DE rerollable saves and take Null Zone. You can only reroll once so all the successful rolls get rerolled which should kill the Archons in one big salvo.
It actually took 2 units of ten scarabs but if I understand the movement rules correct then you sort of can tarpit still. I engaged the first unit then spread the second unit in a bubble around the assault so there was no gap between the bubble that allowed him to hit and run without coming within one of an enemy model. This is of course silly as I had to engineer this scenario and it cost me the game on all other fronts and someone could shoot the bubble, but if the opportunity presents itself as far as I know it can be done.
Showed the fortune death star to my house mate which he used a couple of times so I could try a few tricks against it. Tar pitting with scarabs was alright. Also had a try of some remove from play things that don’t actually inflict wounds to look out sir, Monolith portal of exile was brutal especially with a lucky deepstrike.
I thought you had to deploy your fortifications in your own deployment zone. Also if you want to have some real fun put Telion in base contact with an Icarus Lascannon and just start sniping what ever models you want.
We just had a 1750 Tournament 2hr time limit this past Saturday which didn’t leave much time for learning the rules. Things went smooth for the most part and most games went 5-6 turns. We had not problem with wound allocation. There were questions that popped up but what do you expect when the book had only been out for a week.
I like watching the video battle reports and you guys usually have fun. This one though I had to stop watching about halfway through because of the complaining. I would prefer to watch your reports because of how layed back you guys usually are but not if future ones are going to be like this one .
My group of friends and I are for the most part competitive players and we play the local tournament sceen. There have been a few grumbling about the new rules but for the most part we like them and has sparked some new life in some of our players. Hope you guys can find your nitch and go back to being fun to watch.
Fair enough. It may not look like it, but we were laughing at the game and the new rules more than anything else. Some of the absurdities of it just blow our minds. I can understand though, that it isn’t as fun to watch someone bash your game. We just have trouble accepting some of this stuff as it is so poorly conceived.
I think we’re going to stick to 1750 too, but it’s too early to tell. We’re going to have to play test it some more. If anything, we’ll go down in points to allow for games to finish on time.
Honestly heavy flamers would rape either of your deathstars, and fliers like NS as well. I think if too super cheese armies like that get paired, then yea it will slow down to a grind because they are not balanced and do the same thing essentially… and that’s slow the game down to a crawl. Also guys, remember you can roll as many dice as the model has wounds so you could have done yarrick 6 dice at a time (three to LOS, 3 to save) then 4 then 2 after he takes damage. It really speeds it up. Same with LOS saves against his archons, you can roll as many as he has guys left in the unit and adjust as they drop. Just some tips.
Most guard lists have shit loads of HF on their chimera hulls, which would be an example of what would eat his unit. Drive up on his flanks and he is done, use tank shock to reposition his models. Honestly it isn’t as difficult as your video made it out to be. Also try wolves for your ally so you can runic staff dumb blessings 😉
I had to laugh as well at this video, it was heavy on the complaining but to me the best part was how every time one thing was considered invincible and broken, in the next cut it was dead and what killed it was insane. It just seemed too funny to me to not be intentional. Was it? If not then that’s irony at its best.
We did complain too much in this video, you are right there. We’ve just been really frustrated with some of the rules and it shows. Sorry if that made it less enjoyable to watch. We were laughing our asses off most of the game though.
HF could do it, but I don’t think it would be as easy as you think. The Harlies will obliterate multiple tanks in assault, and you have to get close enough to do it, which isn’t that easy. It could work, of course, no doubt, I just don’t think it will be as easy as you make it sound.
And yeah, it was pure irony which makes it funnier! haha.
We have just been mad about the obvious abuses in this rule set, it feels like holes were left that could have been easily fixed. I
Also, Yarrik was in a multisave unit. Thus LoS happens before you save right, thus you can not both use force field and look out sir. Either you LoS, or you allocate the wound to Yarrik.
That’s it! Lemme at them!
How about Deldarthstar?
Deldar Circle of Doom?
Hahaha, yes! Deldarstar! hahaha, sounds awful, whatever it is!
I’m not sure I don’t have the book, but I think you can only “look out son” time when a unit gets shot at, so I don’t think Yarrick can take all those wounds and look out son each one. I’m not sure tho I do not own the book I’ve been leaching off other people and a PDF.
One time when a unit gets shot at*
WTB edit button
Look Out, Son! Hahahahahahaha, that is the new term!
But no, you can do it for EACH wound. Nice. And by nice, I mean shitty.
Awesome, so now the Ku’Gath Cock Block gets better, not only does it not die but it takes forever to kill.
Hahahahaha, so true!

I miss the old Frontline Gaming batreps.

Thanks for pointing that out, good to know!
I think the Dark Footdar/Footdar army is still totally viable. I think it got better, actually. I am working on how to make it function now.
Stop complaining about the DE rerollable saves and take Null Zone. You can only reroll once so all the successful rolls get rerolled which should kill the Archons in one big salvo.
Runes of Warding, my friend, runes of warding. Also, the unit has a rerollable 2+ cover save often, too, which Null Zone wouldn’t help.
It actually took 2 units of ten scarabs but if I understand the movement rules correct then you sort of can tarpit still. I engaged the first unit then spread the second unit in a bubble around the assault so there was no gap between the bubble that allowed him to hit and run without coming within one of an enemy model. That sir, is an excellent tactic and it does indeed work. If you can pull it off, that is a great trick.

Also had a try of some remove from play things that don’t actually inflict wounds to look out sir, Monolith portal of exile was brutal especially with a lucky deepstrike.
The deathstar has Hit and Run, so they can’t be tarpitted, really! haha.
And yeah, remove from play may be the better choice. Either way, it is a PITA to deal with.
I thought you had to deploy your fortifications in your own deployment zone. Also if you want to have some real fun put Telion in base contact with an Icarus Lascannon and just start sniping what ever models you want.
I thought it was in your half of the table, let me check. Yeah, it says in the table halve.
And crap! hahah, you are right, you can confer tank hunters, preferred enemy, precision strike, etc. onto a gun emplacement….wow!
This just made my day! 😀
Also, Fearless is given to the unit if one model has it. So, that Deathstar is Fearless, too!

Is your video camera on auto? That would explain the light swaps and the spots where the terrain shift left and right.
Yeah, I don’t know what the hell is causing that, I will try and fix it today.
I thought fortune, as an ability that works on ‘Eldar’ does not work on ‘Dark Eldar.’
Allied quins with a farseer are still good without fortuned shadowfields, so if your archon combo isnt as good the unit is still great.
The Harlies were from the Eldar book, so the power does work. It’s pretty crazy.
Also, Yarrik was in a multisave unit. Thus LoS happens before you save right, thus you can not both use force field and look out sir. Either you LoS, or you allocate the wound to Yarrik.
Doh! Good catch, that is right! Oh well, he’s still cool. But yeah, good one, we won’t do that anymore.
