Frankie and I are going to go to WargamesCon!

So, Frankie and I decided to pull the trigger and go to WargamesCon!

These big events are addicting and just a blast. After the great time we had in Chicago for Adepticon, we couldn’t resist another trip to a big tournament. I played 6 great games against cool, fun, highly skilled opponents and the competitive streak in my is itching for another test of skill. The fun lover in my is itching for another weekend of beer and dice chucking with friends, so it’s Austin bound be we!

Flights on Southwest are $254 right now, and with bags flying free it makes it an affordable trip for us. Plus, Austin Texas is a great city, just a ton of fun and with a lot of beautiful Texan girls running around certainly doesn’t hurt, either!

So now the big question is: what armies do we take? I want to bring either my Footdar again, or Nids. Frankie is leaning towards Dark Eldar. What do you guys think? It’s a 2,000 point event, which means we can bring a fully fleshed out force to bear. 2,000pts is a different game, as you can bring tools to fight everyone. The 2 hour 15 minute time limit means you have to be swift, or not even finish 4 turns.

Who else is going? We’ll see which of our teammates can join us, but so far the two of us are going to jump on it, and represent the West Coast and Team Zero Comp in good old Texas!

  1. That’s awesome! It’ll be good to see some top notch players there! The BoLS guys can’t play since they re running it so you will be a welcome addition to the stronger competitors. I won’t be able to make the Mirror Match tournament because my buddy already bought our tickets but I strongly advise you play in it if you can. It’s pretty much the ultimate test of 40k skill.

  2. Paul Cornelius

Mike Entropo, Dave Key and myself will probably be there too. Question is whether the wives will follow….

      1. Mike, his standard Mech Eldar. I’ll probably bring the Horde Orks again to be a contrarian and to give my stomach muscles a good work out. Not sure about Dave. Probably something gimmicky, to base my speculation on previous examples!

        1. Nice! Horde Orks are awesome. We’ll definitely have to drink some beers when we’re out there. It will be cool to be able to play as a attendee and not worry about answering questions!

    1. Uh yeah. I would not be going is my wife was coming, and she would not be coming if she knew it was a gaming conference. Why would I bring her to one of those? Dude, tell me you are not bringing Jen?

      1. Oh, there is NO chance of Jen coming. But Tasha was talking about it. I guess I should have stuck with the singular.

  3. Awesome! I’m waiting on the latest cubic meter of Amera buildings to clear customs, and then we’ll be adding a lot more high and large LOS blocking to our terrain mix (which already has more high and large LOS blocking terrain than I see in most GT terrain pics), so the disadvantages that Tyranids face when charging across the open plains in some tournaments can be less of an issue – though a strong opponent can outmaneuver you and still get the shots; we’re not making it easy mode to walk across the board or anything like that, just not making it a guaranteed Picket’s Charge.

Hope to see a lot more of your Zeroes coming over, Reece. And also maybe you can do that amazing dance Dugg has recorded from the Adepticon Team Tournament. 😉

    1. Hahaha, that dance was ridiculous!

Yeah, that terrain sounds awesome, it makes a lot of armies viable that would otherwise struggle.

We’ll get as much of the squad to come as possible, I know a lot of the fellas want to go, it’s just a matter of finances.

Looking forward to seeing you guys again, Jon!

  4. Eldar seem like they are at a bit of a disadvantage at 2k imo. Other armies add another powerful unit or upgrade to an expensive HQ. You already have the most expensive HQs, and most of your FoC is full so there’s not really anywhere to go. Bring ‘nids and show those GKs what’s up!

    1. Yeah you’re right. 1500 seems to be the sweet spot for the Footdar. 2K isn’t bad, it’s just that the power of the list starts to get diluted.

Bugs on the other hand can scale up very well!

  5. I’ll be there, playing in the Mirror Match and 40k Championship tournaments.

At 2k the game really is, as you said, a different beast. While I want to play against your footdar Reece it would seem that at 2k with 2h15min rounds a foot list may be time prohibitive. I also agree with Dok, your Adepticon 1850 seemed pretty tooled, what could you add at 2k to give you that extra flexibility?

Your Wolves are a great looking army too, you may want to consider a 2k Bjorn list. I would like to see that as well. See you there.

    1. I hope we do get to play!

Yeah, my 2K Bjorn list is ridiculous. It will shoot most armies right off the board. I want to play something different this year though. 2K is my favorite points limit though, and I am really looking forward to it.

      What will you be playing?

      1. I will be running Grey Knights. I know, I know.

I am really tired of my Space Wolves and sold off my fully painted Salamanders, IG, Blood Angels, and CSMs to pay off Uncle Sam last year. So my choices are Space Wolves, Grey Knights, or try to paint up 2k worth of my new CSMs or start a straight up new army and paint it in a month (in the old days I could pull that off believe it or not). But that’s not going to happen with a 14 month old and pregnant wife!

I have a lot more confidence in my GK army now than I did going into the BAO this year so hopefully I won’t embarrass myself again!

  6. Im not sure how your footdar would do, but I would want to see what the extra 150 points could allow you to do and add some nasty wargear/ another squad. I cant make it this time but Im setting aside money for as many GTs as I can get days off for next year (gotta stay in the Bay til then).

    1. My army will be ready for the Golden Throne GT August 4th-5th in San Jose, I think your footdar would make top tables again if you want to carpool it down.

      1. Thanks! Yeah, Footdar kick ass at 1500pts. They really do bring the pain at that level. They max in power and start to lose a bit of steam the higher you go form there.

  7. I am going for sure. Going to bring the same Necron list I brought to San Diego with a couple of mods. Does anyone know what the missions are going to be like win condition wise?

    1. Awesome! There will be a lot of West Coasters there. That list is nasty! I hope you don’t face a PBS or Fear of the Darkness BA army, though.

  8. I’m going, taking the ig this time. Don’t think the Tau would fly too well. Don’t want to see them in peices.
