We here at Fontline Gaming love to game…obviously! We are branching out into other game systems and wanted to let you all know what to expect.
As we have said in the past, we want to spread out and get into other game systems as variety is the spice of life and there are a ton of other great game systems out there.
We’ve already begun to dabble in Malifaux, which is a really enjoyable game. My Bayou Gremlins are just plain wacky, which I love, and the game has proven to be very complex, much r so than 40K, in a good way. I really enjoy the fact that there is so much complexity as it is a nice change of pace. The off-beat tone of the game is great too, with so many different aesthetics and genres crunched into one game, it reminds me a bit of Labyrinth. David Bowie would approve of the Malifaux universe, I think.
We are also very excited to finally be getting into Wamachine. Now that the BAO is behind us, and we actually have some time to put two thoughts together, we will definitely be jumping into Warmachine. From reading the rule book, the game seems very tightly put together, which is awesome. We here love clean rule sets, and Warmacine seems to have just that. I was gong to play Circle as I like their look the best, but I learnt my army to Little T to play at the BAO, and he liked it so much he decided to start them himself. Since Matt on ou team also plays Circle, I figured why clutter it with myself, and so I decided to start playing a faction you don’t see much: Rhul! For those who don’t know, those are the Mercenary Dwaves of the Warmachine setting.
Frankie and J-Mac will be playing Legion, Will is going for Cryx, Vidar likes Khador and Keno plays Menoth, so we will have a nice spread of armies to make battle repots with and to experiment with list building. I am very excited to play!
We also will be jumping into Flames of War. I have always been big into WWII history, and I really like the aesthetics of 15mm gaming, so this will be good fun. Keno is building an all infantry/conscript Russian force, which will be very funny. They essentially just run forward and die! Keno is a disturbed man.
Will will be playing Italy, as he is from Italy. Little T is playing the British, and I will be picking up an American Rifle Company, maybe with some artillery support. We have a bunch of 15mm terrain now after the BAO, so expect some video bat reps with FoW in the near future.
We also have some interest in Fantasy picking up, which is cool because my Wood Elves haven’t done much but gather dust since the dawn of 8th ed. I would like to play again, and some of the younger folks, and Raw Dogger, have been asking us to get Fantasy going at the shop, so stay tuned for that as well.
lastly, the game I am most excited to play again is Heavy Gear! Heavy Gear is a realistic Sci-Fi miniatues game that has a very Battletech like feel, although based much more in real science. The game uses pretty simple mechanics to represent a complex, science driven game setting with Gears (think Mechs), and all kinds of cool, futuristic combat. I loved this game when I was in high school, and I have picked up to squads of Heavy Gears to play a game with whomever I can lure into it!
So, we will have a much wider diversity of content on the site in the very near future. 40K will still be our first love, but there is a big, wide game universe out there to explore, and it would be a shame to stick to just one.
