We should have that up for you tonight.
The winners of the poll:
Tyranids vs. Necrons!
It was a close vote, but that was what you all wanted to see.
So we’ll see how that pans out. We’ll get more of these up if people want to see them (which it appears they do).
We’re also working on the new FAQ’s that came out, and will address them in the upcoming Signals from the Frontline Podcast and an article.
A lot going on this past week!
Woo! I am excite.
Mainly for the Necron’s but it’ll definitely be a good thing to see how well the Tyranids perform being a 6th edition in mind codex. But I still don’t think that will help them out too much considering their horrid overfilled elite slot.
Just an FYI there are new FAQs out from GW one of which is the Necron’s FAQ which may be of interest as it answers pretty much any question that was talked about or I’ve seen in your battle reports.
Yeah, the new FAQ’s change things a lot, and they are in line with what we have been seeing in the 6th ed rules too.
The only one that doesn’t line up so far is the Lash FAQ but that may just be because it is an old leak and since then have decided that not needed to hit was too good? Otherwise it’s seeming the leak is more and more official.
So when do you expect to have it up? I’m anxious to see the results. I’d also like a lot of detail in the video in regards to strategy and how you’re using the new rules. Be nice to get other takes on them than what I initially thought of. 🙂
We are uploading the movie, now. We have a really fast internet connection, but it sill takes a fair bit of time.
We go over details in the video, but I am sure we miss a lot. We’re absorbing an entirely new rule set, and trying to play. Feel free to ask questions in the comment section of the video and we’ll answer anything we don’t cover in the video.
Just wanted to see it before the blackout on Wednesday. 🙂 Really looking forward to watching it, though. Based on how it went, do you think you’ll be doing many more bat reps with the leaked rules?
I’m not sure that is the best matchup to test. Neither list is perceived as a tournament top dog right now and it will be very difficult to see how these new rules would change the metagame since none of the current metagame will be in this matchup. It would be like watching 2 dorks hump for the first time, but they hump a chair. Are we sure they are doing it right? And is it really better than before?
IMO it was not a good idea to conduct a poll. You should know what 2 lists need to face off to see if 6th does tighten the competitive gap. This matchup won’t tell us that. I can poll 100 ten year olds on what to have for dinner and I’m sure ice cream will be pick, but ice cream isn’t what they should be eating for dinner.
Oh well. Have fun with the game. The same questions will go unanswered. Do Tyranids have a respectable chance against a really competitive Grek Knight build. Does non-nurgle chaos have a respectable chance against kitted out space wolves. Can Daemons thrive in an all mech environment? All potential match ups that can shed more light on what the possible changes might bring than these two.
So why is it wrong to have ice cream for dinner at least once? Everything doesn’t have to be serious business with a game that can be linked to war barbies. Besides this is just to TEST the rules, the matters of which you talk about can always just be examined later or done in your own gaming group. Just because they do a lot of tourney stuff doesn’t mean they only can do tourney level things they can have fun too you know.
It’s not like once they do this to TEST the rules they can’t then never again use them to try and see how other armies, like the ones you mentions, can’t be paired up ever again. So your questions may go unanswered for this ONE TEST battle report for 6th but isn’t this report just about testing the 6th ed rules not what the meta is going to be for 6th? Isn’t the meta game determined by your gaming group anyways? So even if they did TEST the rules with armies that are “meta” it would really only be for their main gaming area? For example my meta is really just chaos and space marines. So if they were to test a bunch of games against a “meta” grey knights list it still wouldn’t apply to my meta game.
Just relax they rules aren’t even officially out yet there is plenty of time to learn how to properly hump that chair.
We’ll dig into more action as we go, but for the first battle, we figured we’d show people what they wanted to see. Plenty of time to dig further into the rules.
I was hoping you guys would try something fun out like this 1500 pt list.

Running around broadsiding people like a good Necron robot pirate should. Add in the diviner and something else and you could have full Necron terrain fun. Also makes good use of the FaQ as act in difficult terrain is effected by WW
We are limited by what models we have, too. We have a LOT of stuff here, but we don’t have everything, and we want to use as much painted stuff as possible, so we were somewhat limited in what we played.
But yes, there are plenty of broadsides going on. Avast, ye landlubbers! hahaha
I know how the limited models thing goes. I have been using a multimelta/heavy flamer armed dread to rerpresent the stalkers and its been working well enough that I was hoping you guys might try it and see what you think.
We always try and show what people want to see, but in this case we had to use what was at hand.
i think it’s funny that there is talk about how 6th will effect the current metagame. 6th will be nothing like 5th. not at all. it will become a strategy game and not a percentage based game.
you are going to have to ask yourself, can i get out of my cozy transport and start scoring next turn? if i don’t will he just not roll any reserves and come in after i get out? should i boost to their side of the board and start contesting his objectives or just keep pounding him into the ground hoping to just table my opponent in the end and suck up easy VPs in the later rounds/last turn.
i think the codex’ will give an army a flavor more so than it will dictate the terms of the fight. Sure some will be more AP2 heavy, some alot more swarmy, some more mechanized, others more assualt friendly…but it will be the when and the where you do things that will matter in 6th. I think it will be very hard to critique games between other players. Perhaps after a year or two, a metagame will present itself through an army with much more advanced use of the rules, but until then, i’d put a big ol’ stack of money on tactics winning more games than Tier 1 army lists.
We agree. We LOVE these rules and hope they are legit.
The game becomes more about smart play, as you said, and less about luck. Bravo! That is the kind of game we would like to see.
It feels closer to the fluff, more fun, more control over what happens.
I love it.
What’s this about a blackout on Wednesday? Am I going to have to overload on 6th edition leaked goodness in advance of some ominous GW pogrom?
