Here we see how powerful a Necron list can be. This battle report isn’t completely indicative of what you should expect for reason that will be evident during the report, but I honestly don’t think the results would have been a lot different unless Will had stolen the initiative.
Enjoy!

Not much to say but WOW, smashed!!!
Yeah, that was a pretty brutal game!
Love the reports, quick question though. Why did you run the lord with an orb when Zandrekh already has an orb? Just a back up?
On our first read through we missed that he had one. We have since dropped the Orb for two psychic defense upgrades for the Spiders.
I’ve been playing an aggressive variant close to this list with amazing success against tournament GK, BA, IG, Vanilla Marines and last night, Eldar – All using random Battle Missions.
1,850 Necrons
Imotekh The Stormlord
4x Necron Lords w/Warscythe
10x Immortals
10x Immortals
10x Warriors
10x Warriors
8x Canoptek Scarabs
8x Canoptek Scarabs
7x Canoptek Scarabs
Monolith
3x Canoptek Spyders
3x Canoptek Spyders
Add 3 Scarab bases to each of the 2-8x units at the top of turn 1 and agressively turn them loose. The unit of 7 can be moved forward as a second wave so that you can keep the Spyders 6″ behind them to add 6 bases on Turn 2 before they assault as well. 22 Scarabs assault on turn 1 with an additional 13 Scarabs hitting the lines on turn 2. With the Tomb Spyders running within 6″ of a trailing scarab base to add another 6 on turn 3.
Press hard on turn 1 to put the opponent on their heels and they might recover in time to get double-tapped by Necron Troops and hit by the Monolith.
I’ve also had excellent success using the following aggressive list – assaulting on turn 1 (Battle Missions).
Imotekh The Stormlord
10x Immortals
10x Immortals
10x Warriors
10x Warriors
10x Scarabs
10x Scarabs
10x Scarabs
Monolith
Monolith
3x Tomb Spyders
This list can easily be tweaked by removing 1 Monolith and adding 3x Tomb Spyders and a Cryptek Harbinger of Eternity with Chronometron to give Imotekh re-rolls each turn.
That looks like a great couple of lists. We have been having a ton of success with our Scarab Farm list as well, and have put it through the paces against some top notch lists and have yet to find it wanting. How do you like the Immortals? We haven’t been finding them to work so well. And what are you equipping them with?
The Immortals are better at wounding (Str 5) and making armour saves (3+). I pull them forward with the Monolith(s) to put them in place to double-tap units I hit with the Monoliths Gauss Fux Arc or Particle Whip – together they wear down a unit in the same turn I’ll stretch the scarabs to tie them up with assault or multi-assault. I’ve buried a Power weapon in each unit to give them a counter-punch if they get assaulted. If I need a cannon-fodder unit to speed bump/set-up the enemy I’ll pull forward a Warrior group instead. We play battle missions constantly – having 4 scoring units helps!
I’m using my old Necron Pariahs (painted ceramic white) as the Necron Lords with Warscythes.
Nice! We’ll have to try that out. Have you used mind shackle scarabs yet? They are amazing in our experience, they really help to mitigate the Crons’ weakness to assault.
I’m pretty sure you can’t have more than 10 men in a ghost arc. Is it just there to hang back?
Hey Lucas, you can still take the Ghost Ark, even if the squad can’t fit into it. It rides near the squad to support them.
This list looks dirty. But no A-Barges? I think im going to try this list out with replacing The wraiths with 2 A barges and some more warriors opinions?
You couldn’t take the Spiders though, which is the only problem.
Cause a barges compete with spyders for heavy spots. Spyders> barges. It’s what makes the list work.
Hi,
I’m concerned that the only competitive lists or lists that are winning games are ones that rely on 20-30 scarabs and at least 3 (if not 6-9) spyders. Do people think necrons can do a competitive list without at least a small scarab farm ?
That’s a good challenge, can we see a Necron battle report with the strongest list possible that doesn’t include scarabs, or are they the must have unit ?
Below is the current list I’m building towards, what do you guys think ? I’ve just got the annihiliation barges to build (until then I’m using a 6th wraith, mindshackle scarabs on the overlord and 2 x 5 flayed ones, while seperating the spyders into 3 seperate units).
Overlord – 100
Warscythe
Command Barge – 80
Destroyer Lord – 160 (joins wraiths)
2+ save, Mindshackle.Scarabs
9 Immortals (Tesla Carbines) – 153
9 Immortals (Tesla Carbines) – 153
8 Warriors – 104
Cryptek, Harbringer of Destruction, Solar Pulse – 55
5 Warriors – 65

5 Warriors – 65
Cryptek*, Harbringer of Destruction – 35
8 Scarabs – 120
8 Scarabs – 120
5 Wraiths – 175
Annihilation Barge – 90
Annihilation Barge – 90
3 Spyders – 150
Total: 1750pts, 68 models, 13 Kill Points
* Crypteks sometimes join the immortals allowing the small warrioir squads to go into reserve.
Your kill points are horrendously easy to get, your army is slow and your troop selection small
I feel the same way. After using annihilation barges i’d much rather use those than mass spiders, because to be honest if you get 1 or 2 6’s you’re going to shred any troop in the game. I like that you still have the 3 spiders along with the A-Barges I usually play 1850 so i’m going to try this list out adding more warriors and switch the crypts with lords w/ orbs. Looks solid to me, other than from what i’ve seen the spyder farm is an all out thing so idk about just bringing 3.
Or… I’ve had a lot of luck with a unit of immortals, cyptek w/ VoD and appearing behind gun lines and shreding them to pieces Tau, IG ext
We like A> Barges a lot too, but the power the Scarab/Spiders brings to the list against Mech lists (most common opponent in your average tournament) is such an overpowering advantage.
I’d drop the destroyerlord/overlord for Imotekh/Cryptek Chronomotron too
Not to spam this thread, but i was thinking about trying this out for 1850. Comments?

I think that list may be a bit top heavy in the HQ section. Those troop squads are a little thin and may get wiped quickly. I would also make the two squads of scarabs into one squad. Other than that, it looks like a great list and I think you will have a lot of fun with it.
Very true, I dropped Imotekh and picked up one more H destroyers and put the rest in warriors.

Imotekh is a big points sink and a bit of a gamble, but he defends the Scarabs while they are small and weak, plus his lightening can go bananas, which is why we like him so much. It’s a tough choice to cut him.
the intial list is illegal with 3 HQ choices, Stormlord, Nemessor, and the lord.
Only vargaurd obryn is a free slot with nemessor
